overview
Compass is a mobile investing app for people buying their first stock or fund. It pairs a simple portfolio home with a short goal quiz, suggestions that match the answers, and a community where new investors can ask experts.
the problem
First-time investors open a trading app and see hundreds of tickers, charts and jargon. They don’t know what fits their goal or their risk, so they either guess or leave without investing at all.
solution
A four-question start (purpose, duration, amount, risk) that turns into a short list of stocks and funds with a check button on each. Stock pages lead with a plain summary and one buy or sell action, price alerts take three fields, and a community tab connects beginners with experts and groups.
outcome
In usability tests, first-time users went from sign-up to a shortlist of suggestions in under two minutes, and most set their first price alert without help.
